For anyone who is interested in homemade soap, I have some info. for you:

I will be making a holiday batch of soap sometime soon. For a while all I have been making is unscented, because of my allergies. But this time of year when people like soap as gifts etc., I will probably make a batch or two with essential oils added, for those people who aren't allergic to everything under the sun.

If you want to try a bar, get me your mailing address and I will send you one sometime this winter, perhaps even before the New Year, perhaps not. My soap is made in my mom's kitchen, and it involves some basic chemical reactions that require it to cure for 2-4 weeks in order to harden and to reach a pH level that is safe for skin. But since I am such a fan of small-batch soaps and can't stand using most drugstore soaps, which are drying and are contain weird and unpronounceable ingredients, I will talk a little soap with anyone who is interested, as well as send you a bar to try. If you want to buy more than that I would charge you about $3 per bar, because the materials involved aren't cheap. However, I am not a millionaire so you have to agree that you're not a douchebag and are not going to sue me if my soap gives you a rash, which it won't. I have the most sensitive skin of anyone I know and it doesn't bother me, so you'll be fine. Just saying.

Also, for any veg people, check your labels: "sodium tallowate" is an ingredient that amounts basically to cooked pig or beef lard. It's in almost any commercial soap. I think if the manufacturers put "pork fat" on their labels they probably wouldn't sell as much.

Also, an amazing introductory book on soap is "The Natural Soap Book" by Susan Miller Cavitch. It gives a history of soap, an overview of the basic chemistry of soapmaking, and recipes.

There are some soapmaking kits you can buy at craft stores. These are mostly for fun because they are usually contain already made glycerin that can be melted and poured into molds, and you can add dyes, scents, etc. In the process I use, I essentially have to make my own glycerin, which is more fun, I think. But I don't do it Fight Club style, you sickos.

I revamped my résumé earlier in the week, and I really think it looks pretty good. I have a bunch of them in Word, and Word drives me insane, so I spent so time fucking around with InDesign and man, it really came out pretty good. I submitted it to a local engineering firm that is looking for an administrative assistant. I totally meet all the qualifications, but who knows? I'm going to give them a call middle of next week.

I had my first day at the catering job. It's mind-numbingly brainless, most of the time...but very physically demanding. It's possible that I walked 632992 miles in a 7-hr. shift. Felt like it, anyway.
I dunno, I think I'll keep that while I continue looking around for something else. That's basically what most people do. However, at least I got a free pair of super swank restaurant shoes from my other job, where we sell shoes like that. They're gonna be more comfortable than my insulated boots that I wore that first day. For black shoes it was either those...or heels. That would have been torture.

you're the color,
you're the movement and the spin
could it stay with me the whole day long?
fail with consequence, lose with eloquence
and smile
I'm not in this movie
I'm not in this song
never leave me paralyzed, love
leave me hypnotized, love

I think anticipation of something exciting is the best feeling in the world. Once you have it, it's not so great. I know that's no great revelation, but goddamn it's wild to me right now.

I ran into my mom today at work, and afterwards we went grocery shopping and she paid for my stuff, which was very much awesome. Especially since I got Guinness Draught, and it was her idea. That's like reason number 7362 why my mom is totally sweet.
